A Do-It-Yourself “Smoothie” Interior Design Idea

When a good friend of mine opened a fruit yogurt smoothie shop in a New Jersey Shore resort neighborhood last spring we asked me to help him with the interior design.

His budget was limited.  By the time he had the store space – only about 60 square feet of window storefront on a busy street – tiled floor to ceiling with white ceramic tiles and the stainless steel counter/showcase installed, he had pretty much exhausted his design budget.

He had a great site, a franchise agreement that would supply the fresh and frozen fruit and yogurt products, and two of his own college-age kids ready and willing to help him run the place during the summer months.

All he needed was a great design idea to grab the attention of passersby and bring in the customers.

Being something of an amateur photographer my first idea was large photos or printed posters which could be seen from the street and also decorate the interior.  The franchise was ready to supply digital photos of fruit and logos, but we wanted something a little more personal and original.

We got excited about the design possibilities of photo enlargement but after obtaining a few very high quotes from local photographers and photo shops we were about to abandon that idea.

Then I went online and started shopping the photo to painting and photo to canvas art galleries and hit upon http://www.photo-print-on-canvas.com , a sister site of http://www.paintyourlife.com, the premier painting from a photo and custom portraits online gallery site.

Photo Print on Canvas offered a great design option – printing personal digital photographs in an artistic style such as Pop Art, Graphic, or Illustration.  And they offered sizes up to 48x72 inches – just what we wanted!

We chose a dozen digital photographs of family, Jersey Shore beach shots of local friends and neighbors, local kids drinking smoothies…even a family pet slurping up a smoothie.

We worked with the site’s design department to get the quality and proportions right and then ordered 12 of the largest size canvases in the style of the Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.  We were able to view the final images on line before they were printed so we knew exactly what we were getting.

Photo Print on Canvas shipped promptly and our canvases arrived in perfect condition ready to hang.  The price was remarkably low and the shipping was included.

The results were spectacular!  Needless to say, my friend’s smoothie shop became the hit of the summer season and was always filled with customers, who never tired of commenting on the photographs and telling stories about the people they recognized.

It looks like the shop’s going to become a fixture in the neighborhood…and maybe next summer we’ll add a few more photographs to canvas portraits.

I, of course, will enjoy free smoothies every summer thanks to http://www.photo-print-on-canvas.com.
